KINTYRE - SCOTLAND’S ONLY “MAINLAND ISLAND”

Southend, Kintyre

Southend has beautiful sandy beaches and an excellent 18'hole golf course. Keil Cave, looking out over a superb sandy beach was the home of prehistoric cave dwellers.

Close by the ruined chapel and carved slabs, in the ancient churchyard of Keil. is a footprint where it is claimed that St Columba first preached on Scottish soil after being banished from Ireland. A stone table and water basin can be seen at St Ciaran’s Cave. This was one of the earliest Churches in Scotland where a contemporary of St Columba preached.
