Tarbert, North Kintyre
Tarbert is a small picturesque fishing village renowned for fresh seafood, literally from sea to plate in under an hour when the catch is landed. The working fish quay, and harbour marina provide a stark contrast between modern and historic parts of the village.
The natural harbour is the central focus of the village, with the buildings, shops and hotels all focused around the water.
Tarbert is graced with the arrival and departure of the Waverley paddle steamer from its Loch Fyne journeys during the late spring and summer months, and the second largest Yachting Regatta in the UK.
Tarbert is the gateway to Kintyre, is in close proximity to Portavadie (Cowal) by car and passenger ferry and is an ideal destination not just to explore Kintyre, but also Mid Argyll and Oban only short journeys away.

Kilberry, Knapdale
Kilberry is a small village in the Knapdale area, just north of Tarbert. Knapdale is primarily a heavy wooded area however extends far north beyond Lochilphead to Tayvallich.
Kilberry has the nationally renowned Kilberry Inn restaurant, and also a collection of stone carved grave slabs similar to ones that can be found at Saddell and Kilmartin.

Skipness, North Kintyre
Skipness is a small linear settlement along the coast overlooking the north western most tip of Arran and the jaggy mountain tops, which are often capped with snow.
Skipness is well known for it's fantastic 13th Century castle and chapel which are available all year round to the general public, and there is no entry fee!

Claonaig, North Kintyre
Claonaig is a small village, better known for the ferry terminal which connects Kintyre to Arran.
Carradale, The Carradale Coast
Carradale is the largest village on the east coast of Kintyre and is mid way along this stretch of coast.
A small harbour, a fantastic stretch of beach and nine hole golf course, as well as hotels and caravan parks are available at this popular quiet holiday destination.

Torrisdale, The Carradale Coast
Torrisdale is the location of the fantastic Torrisdale Castle and estate, as well as an organic tannery.
Saddell, The Carradale Coast
Saddell is a small village, it's main attractions are the castle (which is privately owned) and the Abbey which is open all year round to the public and shows some fascinating carved stones.
Saddell is located just south of Torrisdale.
Peninver, The Carradale Coast
Just north of Campbeltown is Peninver. The small linear village is a popular place for holiday visitors particularly as it has a caravan and holiday park and a great section of coastline.
Campbeltown
Campbeltown is the largest town on the Kintyre Peninsula and long associated with whisky for decades now superceded by Islay as the whisky capital of Scotland.
This Royal Burgh is an ideal location for exploring the southern most portion of Kintyre, with some great pubs, local to golf courses, and near the famous Mull Of Kintyre.

Southend, The Mull Of Kintyre
Southend is the small village before you reach Dunaverty.
The location of a stone featuring carved footprints signifying the location of where Saint Columba first came to Scotland many years previously, and the fantastic Dunaverty Golf Course.
Southend also has great sections of beach and coastline to explore.
Machrihanish, The Mull Of Kintyre
Machrihanish is another linear settlement on the west coast of the Mull of Kintyre.
Machrihanish is well known for its two stunning links golf courses, the bird observatory and the sandy beaches.
Bellochantuy, The Atlantic Seaboard
Bellochantuy is a very small hamlet that lies almost half way between Campbeltown and Tayinloan.
Bellochantuy features two hotels, the Hunting Lodge Hotel and the Argyll Hotel - both great places to lunch but also there is great sections of beach and coastline to explore here.

Glenbarr, The Atlantic Seaboard
Glenbarr is another small village located between Muasdale to the north and Bellochantuy to the south.
The home to the clan MacAlister - Glenbarr Abbey - and Glenbarr nursery are two small but interesting attractions in this small village.
Close by are popular spots for keen anglers.
Muasdale, The Atlantic Seaboard
Muasdale is one of the few places that is not on the Kintyre Way walk, but is a delightful small place.
A camping and touring park offers direct access to sand beach that stretches for kilometres in either direction and just further north is A Chleit church and the end of a great stretch of beach.
There is a small grocery store in the village and residential houses. A small and quiet place to stay and a great place to view stunning sunsets over the islands.
Tayinloan, The Atlantic Seaboard
Tayinloan is almost half way along the west coast of Kintyre and close to one of the best beaches in Kintyre - Point Sands, the location of a large holiday park.
Caledonian MacBrayne runs a ferry from Tayinloan to Gigha (for both passengers and cars) which is the main reason for stopping off here.
There is a small grocery shop here (unfortunately the hotel is no longer open).
Clachan, The Atlantic Seaboard
Clachan is a small village and has the last filling station on Kintyre before Tarbert to the north or Campbeltown to the south (on the east coast Carradale has the only filling station).
The village is well known for its tight community, and its quaint old church building.
A short drive through Clachan and around the head of the hill will provide excellent views out to the west over the hills of Knapdale and to the islands.
Whitehouse, North Kintyre
Whitehouse is a small village between Tarbert and Clachan which has a small community.
Kennacraig, North Kintyre
Kennacraig is not an inhabited place, but it is the location of the Caledonian Macbrayne ferry terminal that provides the ferry service to Islay for both passengers and cars.
Kennacraig is only a few miles south of Tarbert.
For catching the early morning ferry it is advised to stay in Tarbert which is the nearest small village with accommodation facilities and shops.
