Machrihanish
This village is the site of the classic links Golf Course. The spectacular sandy beach, stretching for miles up the coast to Westport, is a great centre for surfing and Windsurfing.
South of the village lies the ‘Gauldrons’ and ruined village of Craigaig. It is believed that the Gauldrons is a corruption of cauldron because the sea often bubbles and hisses like a witches cauldron.
Halfway along the shoreline look back and spot the 'Indian Head' rock. Look out for feral goats, otters, oystercatchers, sandpipers, eider ducks, ringed plovers and rock pipits on the shoreline.
