The Kintyre Trail | Tarbert
History, Golf, Walking & Seafood
Tarbert has one of Scotland's finest natural harbours where you can walk almost all the way around its edge. The harbour is guarded by once King Robert the Bruce's Castle, and home to one of the largest yachting regattas in the UK.
The maritime history of Tarbert stretches back centuries, once a popular destination for puffers and turbine steamers of Victorian and Edwardian eras.
Tarbert is still an active fishing port, although now predominantly shellfish rather than herring with which Loch Fyne has long been associated.
The village derives its name "Tairbeart" from the narrow isthmus separating the West and East lochs.
