Glenbarr Village, Kintyre

Glenbarr

Glenbarr has a plant nursery and friendly village store.

The Abbey is home to the Macalister Clan and worth visiting - its owner traces his family history back nearly 1000 years to King Somerled himself.

There is much Norse influence in the history of this locality. No Viking sites have been found in Kintyre although there are plenty of Norse place names. For instance Smerby (Butter Farm) and Ugadale (Owls Glen).

The only object of Norse Origin is the Viking scales found at Gigha now in Glasgow Hunterian Museum.
