Daavar Island, Kintyre

Daavar Island

At the head of Campbeltown Loch is Davaar. Visitors can reach the Island by walking across the tidal breakwater of sand and shingle called the Doirlinn. Remember to check the tide timetable as many people have been stranded when the tide came in! Tide times are available from the Visitor Centre by the Harbour in Campbeltown.

Davaar Island is famous for a cave painting of the crucifixion, painted in secret in 1887- No one knew how it had got there and some people believed that its appearance was miraculous.

Davaar lighthouse was built in 1854 and the island is home to goats, sheep and many seabirds.
