Oatfield House

An Historic Scottish Laird's Country House

Built in 1780 for the Laird of the Achachoirk (Gaelic for Field of Oats) Estate, Oatfield is set in its own tree lined grounds in a beautifully quiet situation around half a mile from the main road. Sympathetically and subtly modernised to retain its wealth of original period features, it enjoys the modern benefits of fully en-suite, centrally heated accommodation and free Wifi within a timeless, old world atmosphere of a galleried hallway, antique panelled dining room and open sitting room fire.

Welcome

Assuring you of the warmest of welcomes and careful personal attention but without ever intruding upon your privacy, Lesley and her family will do all that they can to ensure that your stay at Oatfield is truly relaxed and enjoyable. We very much want you to come back - we love our home and it is really important to us that you are happy here!

Bedrooms

There are three guest bedrooms - a double with en-suite shower, a double with en-suite bath and a twin with en-suite shower. All include free WiFi, tea and coffee making facilities, a hairdryer and towelling robes.

Guest Sitting Room

Set in the original Parlour and centred around a roaring open fire, this sitting room is for the exclusive use of guests and also includes television, DVDs and an excellent HiFi sound system… and we always offer, and are delighted to provide, tea, coffee and biscuits here.

Location

Centrally situated on the Mull of Kintyre and within easy reach (by car) of Campbeltown, the beaches at Machrihanish and Southend and of the Mull itself, Oatfield is set right on the border between the rural open farmland of the Laggan and the wild hills, moorland and sea cliffs beyond.

Grounds

Extending to over 130 acres, Oatfield is set in gardens and woodland immediately around the House with the hill beyond, including the ancient iron age Bealloch Fort on top (please bring your wellies!). From the fort there are stunning views across Kintyre to the Isle of Arran to the east and the islands of Islay and Jura to the west.

Feedback

"A lovely old homestead. We were made very welcome with a cup of tea and a snack. The nights were a bit cool and the host and hostess lit the fire for us in the guest's lounge room. Lovely breakfast including home-made porridge. Made very welcome by the family at all times and they respected our privacy. Sad to leave and would definitely go back", Mike H, Australia, September 2012

"Fantastic B&B! The welcoming atmosphere at Oatfield House was second to none, I was treated as part of the family and Lesley and her family were delightful, attentive hosts with extensive local knowledge and tips on all the best places to visit. It was rather rainy weather during my stay, but returning to a roaring log fire, accompanied soon after by tea, coffee and biscuits definitely helped me dry out. The rooms were spacious, clean and comfortable, and there are electric blankets on the beds which must be a real luxury in winter to crawl into a pre-heated bed!", Faye H, Huddersfield, August 2012

"Lovely old Mansion House in a quiet setting. We thoroughly enjoyed our overnight at Oatfield House which is a lovely old mansion house near Campbeltown on the Southend road. Leslie & John are delightful friendly hosts. Our bedroom was large with lots of charming features. Very quiet with no traffic - slept really well. Super breakfast with real porridge seated at huge dining table and served at a time to suit our needs - early.", AJKedar, Glasgow, May 2012

Oatfield House is 4 Star Scottish Tourist Board graded.
